Soloflex Founder/CEO, Jerry Wilson, Announces Bid for Oregon Governor

Posted on Thursday, October 8, 2009 in Political campaign

Jerry Wilson is taking his politics more seriously. A longtime activist, Wilson served on the National Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee in 2004, and has been a been a Chief Petitioner on two statewide Initiatives, one to force the closure of the Trojan nuclear power plant in 1992 and one to decriminalize marijuana in 1986. Both were ahead of their time but PGE closed the Trojan plant six days after the election citing all the reasons in Wilson’s initiative. Today, only 20% of the voters still believe the drug war should continue.

Wilson will run as a third-party candidate, citing the failure of both ruling parties to properly manage the public’s business. And though Oregon’s constitution grants the Governor “Executive Power,” this power has never been used for anything more important than naming a post office.

Wilson intends to use Executive Power without delay to institute the following:

  • Establish an Oregon Infrastructure Bank to make fully collateralized business loans to repair and expand our public and private capital. This bank will be state owned, non-profit, charging only the cost of administering the loans plus reserves for collections. Says Wilson, “Let the usurers compete with that!”
  • Pardon all persons convicted in Oregon of victimless crimes his first day in office. No victim, no crime.
  • Issue an Executive Order to re-empower juries in criminal trials to judge both the LAW and the FACTS of the case as explicitly expressed in Oregon’s constitution, Article 1, Section 16. “Lawyers aren’t the only ones who can read. Judges and prosecutors will no longer misinform jurors of their rightful constitutional power to represent the people. Whoever punishes the criminal is the ruler of society. That is the role of the citizens, not the lawyer’s bar.”

Wilson also intends to use the Executive Power to institute publicly financed elections for all elected offices in the state.

Wilson maintains that these changes are not radical; in contrast, they are historically consistent with acknowledged principles of justice. Usury has been against the law since ancient Babylon; the Magna Carta of 1215 AD established the rightful power of our jury system to judge the law, and bribery by special interest clearly makes for bad laws. The only radical change, Wilson says, would be an Oregon Governor with the audacity to use the Executive Power to get these important changes made now.

A man possessed of blinding intellect, uproarious wit and an intrinsic sense of fair play who, with his established business acumen, will serve Oregonians very well…and what an extraordinary concept: not accepting contributions…I’ll support your efforts in every way I am able, Mr. Wilson. Viva La Revolucion, indeed! Mariana Tosca

I LOVE IT….finally someone here in OR who is serious about taking on the corrupt, greedy state politics by running a clean and progressive gubernatorial campaign to CHANGE the regressive policies that make this state less than what it could and should be!

Where do I sign up to help the campaign??

Kudos Mr. Wilson….I sense another Tom McCall rising to the top!!!

  6. Sounds great! The State Bank idea is a proven winner, by North Dakota, of all places.

So why aren’t you a Green, Jerry? The Pacific Green Party is vastly larger than the Progressive Party, with a functional infrastructure (no money, but a lot of experienced people), our principles are the same, and we’re looking for a candidate for governor. I’d support you.

We can now conominate with other parties.

  7. Jerry Wilson says:

Article XI, Section 1 of the Oregon Constitution specifically precludes the Legislature from establishing a state-owned bank. It says nothing however, about the Executive Branch setting one up. Here’s why we need one modeled after North Dakota’s: http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2009/03/how-nation’s-only-state-owned-bank-became-envy-wall-street

I had to choose one of the established third parties to get on the general ballot in November. I like what each of them stands for. Would love the Greens to co-nominate me; Independents, too.

    Thanks for your support!

  8. Jerry,
What a great time to get involved. You are a natural leader with fresh ideas, and the time is right, the revolution is being forced upon us. I’d sign up to volunteer, make campaign calls, and tell a thousand friends about our great adventure (not unlike your helicopter flight!)

    Best always,
    Sam Mallicoat

PS. My dad was Sen. Hatfield’s AA. my uncle was McCall’s DC office manager, so let’s roll!

Hey I just wanted to let you know, I really like the writing on your site. But I am utilising Flock on a machine running version 9.04 of Crashbang Ubuntu and the UI aren’t quite satisfactory. Not a strong deal, I can still essentially read the articles and explore for information, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of challenging to use with the config I’m running. Keep up the superb work!

  15. Jerry says:

Yes WordPress works best with a less sophisticated OS. Glad you’re enjoying my blog. So few journalists left speaking truth to power.

  16. Hi – really good website you have created. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to publish a remark to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically sweet. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor for a merchandising firm.

Wow, I like your site !

  18. Money is so intangible, its almost like a promise and a piece of paper.

  19. The problem with this country is BOTH the Democrats and Republicans. Anyone who seriously thinks that one side isn’t corrupt or slaves to Corporate America hasn’t done an adequate job of paying attention. To the Republicans: The GW administration will go down in History as one of the worst administrations. They eroded your constitutional rights, expanded the power of the wealthy elite, invaded countries under false pretenses, destroyed diplomatic relations with the rest of the world, and spent money like it was going out of style. To the Democrats: Obama is a dud. He promised much and has turned out to be another corporate lackey. He made deals with big pharma to ensure you could not get your medication cheaper elsewhere, he flip flopped on military tribunals, he refuses to fix health care properly through nationalization or single payer, he populates his inner circle with more Wall Street insiders, he spends money on bailouts and useless stimulus packages.
