To My Republican and Democrat Friends

There are only two things politics concerns itself with, persons and property, so it is only natural to have a political party for each. All persons have property they would like to keep, even democrats, so there’s a little republican inside every democrat – although not much in the case of nonwhite American women, about $5 median net worth. White women fare better at $42,000 (Source: Harper’s Index). Conversely, being human beings, there is a little democrat inside every republican, Dick Cheney being the exception that proves that rule.

Republicans are generally old successful former democrats. Having accumulated some property, they’d like to keep it. Their motto: Go inherit your own fortune you young whippersnapper! Democrats typically are the young whippersnappers, having less property and thinking maybe the best way to improve their condition is to legislate some of the old people’s money for themselves. This kind of legal theft is a great way to start a fight. So there you have it, my take on the two parties – no wonder politics is never discussed in polite company.

I have come to thoroughly despise both parties for selling out to special interests but particularly the Republican Party. As the party of property, they have forgotten how to create wealth. Most believe low taxes and big military spending is a legitimate idea. That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard, or at least the most dishonest. Paying for wars on credit – to be repaid by their children! Only Wall Street could dream up something so fraudulent.

No one steps into a voting booth to be polite. It’s all about self-interest. I have a theory on what causes that. I think it’s a result of having a government founded on force. Love never plays a part in this drama. Very strange, a nation praying to the Prince of Peace to help win the perpetual wars. Maybe it’s time to rethink the whole calculus of politics. Couldn’t we found a State on the notion of love and mutual respect? Surely we could get our roads built and our kids educated without the threat of confiscations and prisons. We’re told the world is full of sinners but everyone I know is a pretty good person. Almost all would come to my aid in time of need, as I would come to theirs.
