I love John Taylor Gatto, too. I read his book at the right exact time and helped my to-be six year old grandson who was in mortal pain from trying to read those horrible "Bob" books the school system was using. He went from pain to joy; and began loving to read. We'd go to the library and both he and his brother didn't want to check out the "children's" book, but went for the older books. Kids want to be a part of the real world not a made up confined space. Then we could go on about the "textbook" corporation strangle hold on the country. His younger brother who is more vocal, assertive and rebellious did not want to go into the first grade at all after his kindergarten experience; and didn't want to learn to read. I had to motivate him so I said, "Do you know why you want to learn how to read?" He looked at me. "So you can read stuff that adults don't want you to read." You could see his little rebellious mind light up; and he got busy learning how to read.

I love John Taylor Gatto. It's been quite a while since I've read his stuff. He is exactly right. The so called education system prepares the masses to become mindless obedient employees and soldiers used to boredom in service to living in a system that makes no sense. It is mass indoctrination and dumbing down of the population.

Just one of the many things in our world in its current state that makes no sense.

could not agree with you more. throwing more money at education is not how to fix a broken school system, and that's been proven many times elsewhere.

as for health care, we really need it so people like my self should not have to go into bankruptcy because of medical.

My biggest bitch about the proposed health care is the fines that you face if you don't join.

I mean I just don't get them in DC. if I don't have any money for health care now, how in the world can I afford the fines for not having it?

don't reinvent the wheel on health care.. look around you and use what works and don't use what does not work.
